Hi Vidya, Welcome to Vancouver. Plenty of apartments in the area, a few townhomes. Check out thru google search - IDM apartments (they have 8 - 10 different options), Columbia townhomes, Fishers Mill Apartments. Most of these are within 2-3 miles of the Kaiser Cascade location. Slate Ridge on 164th is another possibility, but a little further away..Dont know much about Daycare (well beyond that stage) - but there are a few in the Mill Plain / 164th Ave Area, not too far from Kaiser.
Ajay - There are a few "magnet" schools at the high school level - Vancouver Academy of the Arts has an arts focused high school program, theres a STEM school in Vancouver and the STEM programme at Beaverton SST. You can probably find out more looking at greatschools dot org or google for the us news school rankings; ratings and comments available. At the same time, be prepared that your own assessment may significantly vary from the net rankings; before we moved here, the picture from net search was that Camas was significantly better than Union. After checking out in person, we felt the difference was minor, and Union suited us better.
Hi,We are also moving to Vancouver in September. We are looking for a 3 BR apartment or townhouse. My work place will be at Kaiser Cascade park location. Any suggestions would be appreciated. We are also looking for daycare/preschool for our 3 yr old daughter.
thanks a ton for the response Jyoti and Krish. one more question - while looking at schools in Beaverton, I found some options-school (e.g. SCHOOL OF SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY). What are these kind of schools?
Hi Ajay - we live on the east side of Vancouver and there are a lot of Indians in the area. I would recommend staying away from West Vancouver- the schools on the east side and Salmon Creek are better. Camas has fantastic schools as well.
Hi, your choice of Vancouver / Portland should be clearer based on where your employer / office is going to be; while you can commute between the two places (and many do) - the morning peak commute over the I5 / I205 bridge is better avoided if you can. Plus, many of the known employers in Portland tend be be in the Hillsboro area, which is another 20 + miles away.High schools in Vancouver - Would suggest you check out Camas High School and Union High School; my son studies at Union, we evaluated both when we moved last year. Camas is a little more academic / discipline oriented, Union struck us as being more student friendly while still great at academic development. I dont specifically have suggestions for Elementary school, but both Union and Camas have elementary schools nearby.Living where you can find Indian community : While Vancouver does have a smallish Indian community, its spread out, and may not be as vibrant / social as the Hillsboro area. Same goes for Indian shops / restaurants - Vancouver has 1 Indian shop and 3 restaurants, Hillsboro / Beaverton area have many more.Apartment / Townhouse / House : Your choice; however, note that the real estate market in Vancouver is quite tight, and you may have to be prepared to compromise. In general, you may find apartments easier than finding Townhouses / Houses for rent.
