Vancouver, May 27 (IANS) National Award-winning singer Shashaa Tirupati has sung, composed, written, shot and edited her independent English song "Leprechaun love".

"Leprechaun love" is about running after mirages, catching rainbows and believing in that pot of gold.

"Basically, holding on to anything that brings a smile to your heart, often being things you can't put a finger on, quite literally! It uses the extended metaphor of a rainbow in relation to temporary thrills or joys. From the birth of the rainbow from a drop of rain and a spark of sunlight, to the eluding yet satisfying nature of the folklore of leprechauns guarding the 'pot of gold at the end of the rainbow', this joy is equally temporary, eluding, tempting, believable. Solace is taken in the fact that it's real as long as you want to believe in it and feel it. That's the beauty of emotion and feelings, which we so often take for granted and we forget to appreciate and cherish. 'Leprechaun love' is all of that," Shashaa told IANS.

She shot and edited the video as well as worked on the melody and lyrics, everything in and around her house in Vancouver.

"The music was produced by Marc D Muse and mixed by Aftab Khan, all done in lockdown. I'm thankful to all these people for being so generous in being part of this track," said the "Oceans rained" singer.

Shashaa has sung for films like "Namaste England", "Half Girlfriend", "Jersey" and "OK Kanmani", though she is an indie artiste as well.

On survival during the lockdown, she said: "It's definitely difficult to get purely indie 'virtual' paid gigs but at the same time, it's also incredibly fulfilling to be able to record and work on independent music with ample time and lack of deadlines, and plenty of listeners who are locked down as well. Hence, have the time to listen to what we have to offer."

"For my indie releases, revenue will solely be through YouTube and revenue generated through digital distribution. We need more bodies coming together and supporting paid online gigs for indie artistes," she added.
