Aruna Sairam, the recipient of Padma Shri Award from the Government of India was born in the multicultural metropolis of Mumbai into a family with a deep love of music. The eminent Carnatic Music Vocalist received vocal training from her Mother Raja Lakshmi Sethuraman. As a child she won gold medal for her extraordinary aptitude for Music and at the age of 14, she performed her first full length solo concert at the Rama Navami Festival. Then, at the age of 21, she won the Best Young Musician Award at the annual at the famous Music Academy in Chennai.
Over the years, Aruna Sairam went on to bring out her own approach to Carnatic Music and eventually she succeeded in her efforts. From there on she began to get noticed as a serious musician of great promise and went on to render performances throughout the country. The perceptions of her Music were enriched by exposure to western, Hindustani i.e. Northern Indian Classical music and film music.
Aruna Sairam is one of the prominent vocalists in India who is known for her international presence. During her performance, upon listening to her music, audience would feel would feel a timeless and space less sensation. Rasika was founded with a mission of promoting and educating Indian arts and culture in the state of Oregon. In addition to presenting premier Classical Carnatic music and dance concerts by celebrated artists of India, Rasika's goal is also to introduce Indian arts, crafts and culture, to the children through lectures, demonstrations by visiting artists, workshops and summer heritage camp. The distinguishing feature of this organization is its mission to reach out to the local community and bring both entertainment and education/outreach of the Indian arts and culture to the State of Oregon.
