Historical Event on 12/9/1946
The first meeting of Constitutional Committee Assembly was held in Parliment after a gap of two years, 11 months and 17 days. The Congress started its work of framing the Indian Constitution. Muslim League boycott failed to prevent Constituent Assembly opening. From 16th August 1946, the country witnessed communal riots on an unprecedented scale. At this crucial juncture, on 20th February 1947, Clement Atlee the British prime minister, fixed June 1948 as a deadline for transfer of power and Lord Mountbatten was appointed as the new Viceroy.

6/28/1991	K. Doraiswamy, a senior executive of the Indian Oil Corporation, was kidnapped by Kashmir ultras.
8/1/1905	Horse drawn tram cars were closed down in Bombay. This service was started on May 9, 1874 with 20 tram cars and 200 horses. The very first day of its run, the number of passengers carried was 451 and the amount earned was Rs. 85/- on the last day it had 1360 horses and carried 71,947 passengers and earned Rs.4,260/.
1/3/1947	Gandhiji toured the riot-affected areas in Bihar from January 3 to January 29.
6/25/1943	No. 8 Squadron started functioning absorbing the remaining coastal defence flight personnel, and also issued with a vengeance to achieve operational status.
8/3/1998	35 persons were killed as Govind Towers at Bandra in Mumbai collapsed.
11/18/1727	Maharaja Jai Singh-II of Amber laid the stone of Jaipur City. Vidyadhar Chakravarty of Bengal was the architect of the first planned city in India.
12/20/1931	Leela Nag (Leela Roy), freedom fighter and editor of Jayshri, was arrested in Bengal for her association with ""Depali Sangh"" who supported Chatgang Ammunition Plot against the Bengal Government.
