9/11/1895	Vinoba Bhave (real name Vinayak Narhari Bhave), great Gandhian Acharya, was born at Ganoda village of Maharashtra.
4/22/1930	Revolutionary Surjya Sen's many associates were killed and Surjya Sen ""Masterda"" himself went underground, on Jalalabad Hill and started extending his activities to neighbouring districts.
8/15/1997	The Government bans doctors from determining the sex of the foetus.
1/27/1931	Mahatma Gandhi was released from jail, ending eight months of imprisonment for his campaign of civil disobedience against British rule. To avoid demonstrations, Gandhi was released late in the evening from the Yerovda jail and put on a night train to Bombay. There was hope in British circles that the release of Gandhi would end the strife and lead to discussions of dominion status. Gandhi made clear, however, that he would persist in his civil disobedience campaign.
5/25/1611	Emperor Jahangir married Meherunnisa, widow of Sher Afghan. She recieved the title Noor Jahan.

11/16/1913	Agnihotri Ambadas Shankar, journalist and litterateur, was born.
4/21/1996	Sanjay Thapar of the IAF (leader) becomes first Indian to parachute down to geometric North pole and unfurl the flag.
