1/18/1950India is declared a secular republic. Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru (1947-1964) is determined to abolish casteism and industrialize the nation. Constitution makes Hindi official national language, English to continue for 15 years, 14 major state languages are recognized. India also moved a motion for no war treaty between India and Pakistan to improve the relations with neighboring countries.
6/11/1999India provided incontrovertible tape evidence of Pakistan's involvement in the Kargil sector. The Indian army killed 23 intruders in the Batalik and Dras sectors but lost 15 of its men.
5/27/1999IAF loses two fighter aircrafts in the Kargil area. Pakistan claims it has Flight Lieutenant Nachiketa in its custody.
9/13/1984Swami Brahmanand died. He established Brahmanand Inter College (1938), Brahmanand Sanskrit Mahavidyalaya (1943) and Brahmanand Mahavidyalaya (1960). He joined the freedom movement and participated in Salt Satyagraha, Non Cooperation Movement and Quit India Movement.
