1/5/1893Paramahansa Yogananda (1893-1952), universalist Hindu, great saint, social reformer, writer and litterateur was born at Gorakhpur. He was the renaissance founder of Self Realization Fellowship (1925) in US, author of famed 'Autobiography of a Yogi' (1946), popular book globalizing India's spiritual traditions.
5/22/1961Jnanpeeth Award was instituted and the first award was given in 1965. This award is given for the best creative literary writing by any Indian citizen in any of the languages included in the VIII Schedule of the Indian Constitution. The award carries a cash price of Rs 2.5 lakh, a citation and a bronze momento.
