8/15/1872Sri Aurobindo Man Mohan Ghosh born in Calcutta. He was a renaissance yoga philosopher, freedom fighter and teacher. His 30-volume work discusses the 'superman', a metaphor for the divinely transformed individual soul. He withdrew from the world in 1910 and founded International Ashram in Pondicherry.
11/1/2000Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa, Union Minister for Sports, releases the CBI report on match-fixing in New Delhi.
4/13/1947Diplomatic relations between India and Russia established.
2/2/1982Mohanlal Purushottamdas Sukhadia, Chief Minister of Rajasthan, freedom fighter, passed away. He was the Chief Minister of Rajasthan from 1954-1971. He introduced Panchayati Raj in Rajasthan and worked for its industrialisation also.
3/21/1979The Cytology Research Centre was set up at New Delhi (renamed as the Institute of Cytology and Preventive Oncology in 1988).

1/9/1922Har Gobind Khurana, scientist of Biology, was born in India. He did his M.Sc from University of Punjab and, for higher education went to University of Liverpool. In 1959, he produced a chemical called ""Coenzymea"", which is essential for certain processes in the human body. He was awarded Nobel Prize for medicine in 1968 along with Marshall W. Nirenberg and Robert W. Halley.
4/6/1980Janata Party splits again; members with RSS links form the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP). A. B. Vajpayee becomes its first President.
